Is it Valid to Follow the Salafi Madhhab?
Q.
Dear Brother Ustadh,
I have a question regarding madhabs and salafis. After doing considerable
research into the necessity of following a madhab, I feel very inclined
towards traditional sunni scholarship. But I still need clarification on
some other issues. In Bilal Phillips book, "The evolution of fiqh" he
states that madhabs principles can be too rigid and that a unification of
the madhabs should take place. That led me to realize that salafis tend to
follow one steady fiqh. Whenever there are books on fiqh by salafi

Child Custody
Q.
As-Salam-alaikum,
My sister is divorced and has a 7 year old daughter. She got remarried and is now living here in the USA, while her prior husband is still in Egypt. The father wants to see his daughter but she does not trust sending the daughter even for a vacation lest he forcibly keep her. What is the ruling on custody? Does she lose custody according to Maliki Fiqh? If that is the case, does it go to the father, or to her mother?
Traveling Before Fajr In Ramadan
Question:
As salamu alaykum. I had the intention not to fast today because I am going to be traveling out of the state to help someone move. I had intended to leave prior to fajr entering, but it did not happen like that. Is it still permissible for me not to fast. I gave up on breaking it once I was still in my city area since I was/am under the impression that I am no longer allowed to break it since leaving prior to fajr is a condition for its permissibility.

Circumcision
As for circumcision (khitan) for the male (i.e. removing excess skin from the male prepuce - i.e. head of the penis), it is considered to be a stressed sunnah in our madhhab. But Imam Shafi'i considered it to be compulsory. As for female circumcision (khifad), it is also considered to be recommended (mandub), but it
is not stressed.
